About Rural India Hospital Project

Genesis

An America- India Dispensary (AID) was registered on 15th January 1964 as a Not for Profit Corporation Chartered under the Laws of the State of Illinois, USA and the leading citizens of Coorg under the leadership of late Sri C M Poonacha, former Chief Minister of Coorg and Union Railway Minister to start a hospital in Ammathi. By a supplement agreement on 14th December 1976, the AID was changed to Rural India Hospital Project (RIHP) – as a Public Trust on 14th December 1976. Mr. Robert W. Caldwell, American Counsel in India laid the foundation stone for America – India Dispensary on 16th of October 1964. This Dispensary gradually evolved into a 48-bedded hospital, named as Rural India Health Project (RIHP) Hospital.

The Hospital is situated in Ammathi, a small town in Kodagu District, the land of coffee plantations, rendering services to the rural community including large number of plantation labourers and tribal families.

On 6th November 2024, a Specialist Medical Camp was successfully conducted at the community Hall, Perumbadi, Virajpet organized in association with ODP Mahilodaya Sangha, Siddapura.
